Two Norwegian-flagged cruise hotels that sail, rather than sit on a boulevard.
Color Fantasy (2004) and Color Magic (2007) are Color Line’s Oslo–Kiel ships. This page restates public hotel-at-sea facts. It is not a cabin confirmation.
Color Line AS, Hjortnes — Norway’s largest international passenger line.
Color Line states it is the only company in international passenger and cargo traffic to and from Norway with all ships in the Norwegian register and a Norwegian head office. Daily departures at 14:00 from both Oslo and Kiel, arriving 10:00 the next morning — about twenty hours at sea. Color Line presents Color Fantasy and Color Magic as the world’s largest cruise ships with a car deck. Both sit in the Norwegian register (NOR) with Oslo as home port. All cabins sit above the car deck and come with a private bathroom and TV.
- Color Fantasy (2004, Aker Yards Turku): 74,500 GRT, 224 × 35 m, draught 6.8 m, 42,400 hp, 22 knots, Det Norske Veritas. Passenger capacity 2,400, max capacity 2,605, 966 cabins, 2,667 beds, 750 cars, 1,270 trailer lane metres, 15 decks.
- Color Magic (2007, same yard and hull form): 75,100 GRT, passenger capacity 2,600, max capacity 2,812, 1,016 cabins, 2,975 beds, 550 cars. Same length, beam, draught, speed class and lane metres.
- Children under 16 cannot travel alone. A 2-day cruise has a 20-year age limit. Pets are not allowed on 2-day cruises, according to Color Line.
How the hotel-at-sea actually checks you in.
Foot passengers must be at the terminal no later than 60 minutes before the 14:00 sailing; vehicles 120 minutes. Bring photo ID and the booking number. Cabins are not a city-hotel check-in at 15:00 — you board a scheduled ferry.
- NOK and EUR are accepted on board. An ATM sits at the casino entrance on deck 6.
- Wi-Fi is the ColorGuest network, supplied by Telenor Maritime. The satellite network opens when the ship is at sea. Color Class and suites claim a free code at reception. Everyone else buys a package (Color Line lists 3 / 12 / 24 / 42 hours). Book 24 hours ahead for the published 10% discount.
- Lifts connect public decks. Color Line states common areas are wheelchair-accessible and that most guests with reduced mobility can travel unaccompanied — read their accessibility page before you sail.
- Conference and exhibition rooms are listed as part of the cruise-ferry product. Ask Color Line, not this desk, for capacity on a given sailing.
Restaurants and bars the operator lists by name.
Color Line names gourmet, à la carte, buffet, tapas, pizza, hamburgers and sandwiches, plus four bars with live music or DJs. Hours below are operator figures and can change.
Grand Buffet
Forward, deck 6. Scandinavian buffet with a pianist. Breakfast 07:00–09:45, lunch 13:30–15:00, dinner 17:00–22:00. If the 18:00 sitting is chosen, Color Line notes 1.5 hours before a 19:30 reset. Captain Kid buffet on weekends and Norwegian school holidays.
Observation Club & lounge
Suite breakfast is in the Observation Club on deck 15, 07:00–09:45. The panoramic bar sits high over the fjord.

Color Spa & Fitness — deck 13, 07:00–21:00.
Forward on deck 13. Color Line lists modern fitness kit, hot tubs, separate ladies’ and men’s saunas, steam bath, massage chairs and treatments. A spa shop sells products, swimwear, activewear and drinks. A golf simulator on the same deck is booked at the spa desk (07:00–21:00).
Every guest — including suite guests — must reserve a slot at the Color Spa & Fitness Center reception after boarding. Capacity is limited. Suite access is included from age 16. Color Line recommends booking treatments a week ahead, or by phone: Color Fantasy +47 22 94 41 75, Color Magic +47 22 91 39 52 (spa lines published 08:00–13:00).
- Timed admission: 90 minutes fitness, or 120 minutes spa and fitness (locker, towel and bathrobe included on the longer ticket). Live prices sit on colorline.com — we do not freeze a krone figure here.
- Change and shower for the fitness-only ticket is in your cabin, according to Color Line’s spa note.
Aqualand — aft, deck 12, alcohol-free.
Color Line calls it a bathing paradise in the middle of the sea: hot tubs, a baby pool, water slides, a stream river (lazy river) and a sauna. Refreshments are sold on site; three slush machines are mentioned for children. The park is alcohol-free.
Reserve a time slot at the Aqualand reception on deck 12 as soon as you can after departure. Opening windows Color Line publishes vary by sailing and weekday (examples on their Aqualand page include 14:00–18:00 and longer Sunday / Kiel slots). Confirm the day’s hours on board — we do not invent a fourth timetable.
Promenade shops, shows and the nightclub that is not a casino.
Color Line’s own ships page lists shops, restaurants, a water park, casino, spa and fitness, and international shows in a dedicated lounge. Hours can change.
Tax-free and fashion
Taxfree Market (about 400 m²) sells groceries, chocolate and a Deli Shop. Hours published: 08:00–09:45 and 14:30–22:00. Fashion Boutique and Color Shop: 08:30–09:45 and 14:30–24:00. Onboard prices are in Norwegian kroner.
Show Lounge
Evening productions Color Line calls Norway’s most-watched show, with an estimated 550,000–600,000 viewers a year. That is the operator’s figure, not a ticket guarantee for your sailing.
Casino, deck 6
Opposite the buffet. Slots, blackjack, roulette; Color Poker on Color Magic. Hours 07:00–09:45 and 14:15–01:00. Age 18. Paf operator. Nightclubs Tower (Fantasy) and Palazzo (Magic) are 20+ and sit on two decks — in school holidays that space is also used for children’s activities.
